Barcelona Room
HELENUS Project
This session will be presented by several members of the HELENUS project consortium which will develop and demonstrate High Efficiency Low Emission Nautical SOFC for shipping applications using LNG / bio-LNG and other alternative fuels.
Development of a modular, highly durable and scalable SOFC system design is underway designed to meet multi-MW large scale power installations with the potential for ships to dramatically reduce fuel consumption and GHG emissions towards a net-zero pathway. A 200kW system is being developed through the project that will be installed and demonstrated offshore aboard a 48m research vessel.
HELENUS will also demonstrate the fuel flexibility of SOFCs with alternative renewable fuels over various maritime duty cycles, and perform environmental testing to target TRL8 by the end of the project. Through collaboration between key stakeholders from all sections of the maritime value chain, HELENUS will pave the way towards climate-neutral shipping.
