Day 2 Room 2 Automation and Autonomy
The MEGURI2040 Fully Autonomous Ships project administrated by the Nippon Foundation has been targeting the commercialization of fully autonomous ships. Under the program, a consortium of over 50 companies (DFFAS+) in Japan has developed a fully autonomous navigation system equivalent to AL4, and the vessels – both cargo vessel and passenger ferry – equipped with the system have received the first-ever certification of ‘autonomous ship’ by the government. The presentation shows the achievement of the project covering its technical features as well as the work conducted on social acceptance of stakeholders ranging from shipowners, operators and cargo owners to seafarers and insurance companies.
