This presentation explores emerging marine propeller and propulsion concepts designed to improve efficiency, reduce cavitation, and extend range for electric and hybrid vessels. This session will examine looped-blade propellers such as the Sharrow designs, the ABB Dynafin configuration, and staggered paired-blade propellers under development by REV Labs, including their potential integration with electric and hybrid pod propulsion systems. The session will discuss the use of CFD to evaluate thrust, efficiency, cavitation vibration and noise, along with lessons learned comparing CFD simulations with prototype testing and sea trials.
