Port power capacity: How ports are 'scaling up' to meet new power and resilience demands

16 Jun 2026
Ports and Infrastructure
Day 1 Room 3 Ports & Infrastructure
This presentation will discuss how ports can respond to new power demands both for vessel cold-ironing as required by vessel In-Port requirements under AFIR, as well as increasing need for shore-side charging of the increasing size of installed batteries. A key aspect of this scaling up is how they can ensure power resilience. How are ports set up to deal with a grid power failure (Heathrow last year and Channel Tunnel more recently) and what impact that would that have on port operations, local navigation, VTS systems and overall safety.
