Rethinking vessel performance with digital ship models

Day 3 Room 2 Automation and autonomy
Shipping still makes critical decisions based on simplified assumptions about vessel performance. New advances in performance modeling now allow ships to be simulated at fleet scale using AIS tracks, vessel data and metocean conditions. A recent study reconstructing over 1,600 ship years shows strong agreement with EU MRV fuel data, revealing both fleet-level accuracy and large real-world performance variation. In this presentation, Ilse Rodewijk explores how scalable digital ship modeling is changing the way the maritime industry understands vessel performance and how these tools could reshape decision-making in operations, regulation and decarbonization.
