This presentation provides a quantitative assessment of an existing shipboard fire suppression system in the context of a lithium-ion battery fire. The results indicated that some surprisingly simple and affordable modifications would make their existing system highly effective at stopping fire spread. With a larger number of vessel owners and operators considering retrofitting existing vessels with lithium-ion based systems, this result will be of significant interest to owners, operators, integrators and regulators alike.
