How can space technology power the future of maritime? TESA ACCESS BASS is a commercialization programme supporting companies that develop services using space assets—SatCom, SatNav, and Earth Observation—across all market segments. It supports activities at different maturity levels, from Proof of Concept to Pilot projects, with co-funding of 50–80% and a strong focus on commercial viability and customer engagement. With insights from Nil Angli and Noelia Abascal, this session will explain how companies can access funding through ESA’s Open Calls, how the application process works (starting with the Activity Pitch Questionnaire), and how projects are selected and developed.
The discussion will also explore how ESA collaborates with the maritime sector—through initiatives such as the Maritime Sustainability Task Force—to define real challenges and co-design funding opportunities. From matching service providers to industry needs, to supporting the development of scalable, commercially viable solutions, the panel will focus on how funding is being translated into real deployment.
Key Discussion Points:
How ESA ACCESS BASS supports maritime projects The application process and Open Call structure.
Eligibility: use of space assets (SatCom, SatNav, Earth Observation), commercial viability, and customer engagement in maritime applications
From Proof of Concept to Pilot: what gets supported and why in the maritime sector
