founder and strategic advisor – fractional COO; maritime, ports, energy and infrastructurer, SuRe Strategy Group
Dr Beatriz Canamary is a strategic advisor and fractional COO specializing in maritime, port, energy and infrastructure operations. Over a 20-year career spanning engineering, operations and executive leadership in capital-intensive industries, she has held roles including executive director at a US$6.5bn Brazilian steel company and integrated industrial port – overseeing operations, commercial strategy and multistakeholder negotiations across government, industry and international partners. She served as lead negotiator on a nine-figure joint venture with the Port of Rotterdam, aligning stakeholders across three jurisdictions during a political transition. Dr Canamary is engaged with the development of the Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) Code through ZESTA’s contributions to the IMO Maritime Safety Committee, providing proximity to the regulatory framework for autonomous shipping as it is being finalized. She also serves as chair of the Innovation Committee at the Floating Economy Institute and as adjunct professor at Florida Polytechnic University, teaching operational strategy to graduate engineering and business students. Her current advisory portfolio spans floating nuclear energy infrastructure, autonomous vessel platforms and US maritime industrial base revitalization. She led development of the industry response to the 2025 National Security Strategy’s maritime provisions, published in partnership with ShippingInsight, and produced the national blueprint for maritime renewal following the SHIPPINGInsight Leadership Roundtable, which convened 49 maritime executives in Houston. Dr Canamary holds an M&A certificate from Harvard Business School and a doctorate focused on sustainability innovation adoption in US ports, with empirical research examining how institutional and stakeholder variation across regions shapes technology deployment outcomes. She has co-authored whitepapers with PortXchange on decarbonization and green shipping corridors, and is a contributing author to the forthcoming books Sustainability in the Cruise Industry (2026) and Maritime Ports of Tomorrow (2026). She speaks internationally on maritime innovation across the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
