Marko Rahikainen

Capt. Marko Rahikainen has worked for the One Sea Association since 2022. Joining the association, he facilitated the process of having the association approved for consultative status at the IMO in 2025 and actively contributed to the discussions and development for international regulations for autonomous and remotely operated technologies. Marko joined the Finnish maritime administration in 2003 and handled a multitude of tasks ranging from newbuilding surveys, inspections, certification to implementation of ISPS, PSC regime, accident investigation. Moving to international affairs in 2010, Marko has represented Finland at EU and IMO level as expert, representative and head of delegation to hundreds of meetings. Marko has seagoing experience from 1990 up to 2003 in the deck department on several different ship types and operations including new buildings.
In 2017 he prepared and presented the event “Future technologies to maritime transport” held at IMO MSC 98 that can be held as the starting point of introducing the idea of autonomous navigation.
