Paul is a Class One marine engineer with over 20 years’ experience in marine propulsion, power management and energy systems. He is currently undertaking a PhD at Newcastle University focused on decarbonizing inland and short sea shipping through vessel-centric energy demand modeling. Paul’s research bridges industry and academia, using real operational data to inform scalable zero-emission infrastructure strategies. His work challenges technology-first decarbonization approaches, advocating instead for a data-led understanding of maritime energy demand.
