A New Horizon: AMT Expo & Conference, Barcelona 2027

From June 16–17, 2027, Advanced Maritime Technology (AMT) Expo & Conference enters a new phase as it moves to Montjuïc, Fira de Barcelona.

This is more than a change of venue. It is a strategic step forward, positioning AMT at the centre of a rapidly evolving global maritime technology landscape and aligning the event with the environments shaping the industry’s future.

Why Barcelona? Why Now?

The maritime sector is undergoing profound transformation. Advances in digitalization, automation, decarbonization, and offshore energy are not only reshaping technologies but redefining how the industry collaborates.

Progress today depends on closer connections between industry, research, investment, and policy. As a result, location plays an increasingly important role, not just in accessibility, but in enabling meaningful engagement.

Barcelona represents this shift. A city where maritime activity, innovation, and investment intersect, it offers a setting designed for the next phase of industry transformation.

By moving to Barcelona, AMT is placing itself where ideas can move faster – from concept to deployment – and where partnerships extend beyond the exhibition floor.

Our choice of Barcelona

Our choice of Barcelona

Barcelona brings together the core elements driving maritime innovation today:

  • A major international port with strong operational activity.

  • A rapidly expanding blue economy ecosystem.

  • A growing concentration of research, technology and investment.

  • Strong collaboration between public institutions and private industry.

Initiatives such as BlueTechPort and the upcoming Maritime Technology Park are creating a dynamic environment for innovation and growth. Their proximity to Fira de Barcelona allows AMT participants to connect directly with live projects, active developments, and future partnerships.

A strategic step for a changing industry

A strategic step for a changing industry

The move reflects a broader shift within the maritime sector. As innovation accelerates, industry platforms must evolve beyond traditional exhibition formats. AMT 2027 is designed to be:

  • More connected to live case maritime operations.

  • More integrated with research and investment.

  • More relevant to the challenges shaping the sector.

Barcelona provides the foundation to support this evolution, enabling AMT to function not just as an event, but as a platform for ongoing industry engagement and development.

International relevance & sustainability leadership

International relevance & sustainability leadership

Barcelona’s global profile in sustainable maritime innovation further strengthens its role as host city. In 2025, UNESCO named Barcelona the global capital of the sustainable ocean economy, recognising its leadership in balancing growth with environmental responsibility. This aligns directly with the priorities shaping maritime technology today.

Supporting Growth at Fira de Barcelona

The move to Fira de Barcelona provides the scale and infrastructure required for AMT’s continued expansion enabling AMT to grow while maintaining its core focus on technical excellence, innovation, and commercial exchange.

Welcomed by an industry

  • “Barcelona is the right home for Advanced Maritime Technology. The city’s long-term commitment to the blue economy creates exactly the kind of environment where AMT can grow beyond an event and become a genuine industry platform. IEMA, with its headquarters in Barcelona, is well placed to help AMT build those connections – across the private sector, public institutions, and regulatory bodies – from day one.”
    Adrià Jover, president of IEMA
  • “We are proud to welcome Advanced Maritime Technology to Barcelona, an event that aligns closely with Fira de Barcelona’s commitment to innovation, technology and sustainability. For centuries, the city has been shaped by the sea and has served as a gateway for ideas, trade and cultural exchange. "
Constantí Serrallonga, general manager of Fira de Barcelona
  • "The arrival of AMT in Barcelona reinforces the city’s position as a leading international venue and strengthens its commitment to the Blue Economy, a key pillar of Barcelona Impulsa 2025–2035. Working in close collaboration with Fira de Barcelona, the Port of Barcelona, the Convention Bureau and the Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation, we aim to ensure the event generates lasting impact, supporting innovation, investment, infrastructure and sustainable economic growth across the maritime sector.”
    Raquel Gil, fifth deputy mayor
  • “Barcelona could be a strategic location for future editions of the event. Being close to the port and marina is a strong advantage, and the city could give a fresh new image to the exhibition.”
    Advanced maritime technology community
  • “Barcelona is a great idea. We do have a number of projects in Spain, and considering the show has always been hosted in the Netherlands, it might indeed be a good time to explore a new location.”
    Advanced maritime technology community
  • “Since I believe that making changes voluntarily usually brings positive outcomes… I think this could make the event even more recognisable.”
    Advanced maritime technology community
  • “Although I live in Amsterdam… there is enough industry in Spain to make it interesting for most of our members.”
    Advanced maritime technology community
  • “This is the most exciting move and absolutely the right plan for AMT for the future.”
